Justin Jeffre for City Council, 2007

Endorsements

The Southwest Ohio Green Party

We're proud to have Justin Jeffre representing the Green Party in this year's City Council race. Through his research for the Cincinnati Beacon and his tireless street-level activism, he's become one of the leading progressive experts on what's happening in Cincinnati, good and bad. To match this experience, he has the intelligence to identify creative, humane policy solutions and apply them in the context of local government. Justin has already done great service to the city by pointing out long-standing patterns of corruption and influence peddling. Because of his courage in speaking out against these harmful influences and his commitment to refocusing the city on meeting the needs of everyone who lives here, he'll be an excellent and much-needed addition to the next City Council. Help us bring independent, people-centered politics back in style - Vote Jeffre!

I endorse Justin Jeffre because he supports issues that directly impact the average citizen, such as recycling, keeping health clinics open, maintaining the 1.5% budget allotment for human services, and keeping recreation centers and pools open for community use. He does not support the jail tax. He is against corporate welfare which takes resources away that can be used for a larger portion of the city’s population. I suggest people closely compare what we have on council now and what Justin Jeffre has to offer.

Stephanie Dumas, former Mayor of Forest Park and former candidate for Hamilton County Commission

Finally a politician that puts the people first!!! Justin truly has a heart for the people.

His creativity, energy and willingness to seek innovative solutions makes him an ideal candidate to move Cincinnati forward.

Nick Lachey

Justin has a great passion for this City. I'd love to see Justin able to use that passion for improving Cincinnati.

I know he is a serious and committed person, and he will be a great benefit to the City when given the chance to serve.

Bill Joiner, Democrat

I have been a loyal Democrat for many years because I believe in traditional Democratic values. I recognize that not every Democrat lives up to those values, and there are others who are not Democrats but who, despite their party labels, embrace those Democratic values. I believe Justin Jeffre is one of those persons, and I am happy to endorse his candidacy for City Council.

Jenny Edwards, Democratic Activist

Justin accepts responsibilty as a citizen servant, connecting facts and the processes comprise issues into how they translate to daily life. He communicates information gleaned from citizen governance AS THE INVOLVED, CONCERNED CITIZEN, not some politcally spun, lobbyist-orchestrated mouthpiece. Such empowerment of citizens as part of our/their process in all levels of government is greatly needed.

Jeffre delivers participative messages with knowledge and zest. Consciously connecting citizens, communicating information, serving in the decision making processes. Grassroots democratic lifeblood building better communities for a stronger, vibrant Cincinnati. That's the Jeffre way of work.

I've had opportunity to get to know Justin working with major Democratic campaigns and issues; in one instance, he was the opposition. Endorsing him is easy as he lives and walks the talk of Democratic values.

Bill Sloat, Seasoned Journalist, Political Blogger

"I think that third parties will bring a lot to the political process, and The Greens are a legitimate political party with a legitimate agenda. People need to look at it. They were even ahead of Al Gore on global warming."

I live and work in Over-the-Rhine and witness daily the devastating effects of poverty on the City of Cincinnati. As an advocate and media watchdog, Justin Jeffre has always been a friend to those who need him: young people, poor people, people without meaningful access to local government, working families and people hungry for thoughtful information on difficult subjects (and not just glossy sound bites). He is not afraid to speak truth to power, in fact, he thrives on it. Justin is a visionary with a sound plan for making this a better city. He is an active and engaged citizen, always willing to go the extra mile. In short, he is exactly the kind of leader we need right now; one who is willing to roll up his sleeves and preserve the values of justice, civil rights and quality of life that we all hold dear. This is why I'm pleased to support Justin's candidacy for Council.

Dan LaBotz, Progressive Activist

Justin Jeffre represents the alternative political path that Cincinnati needs to take. We need to turn away from the corporate-dominated politics that serve big business but neglect our communities. We need to go green with planned and sustainable development, we need to overcome the city's legacy of racism and discrimination. We need city politicians who think in terms of the larger political context. For all of these reasons, I urge Cincinnatians to vote for Jeffre for City Council.

Bob Fitrakis, Voting Rights Activist, former Green candidate for Ohio Governor

Justin Jeffre is a visionary environmentalist, a voting rights activist and a true believer in grassroots democracy. I can think of no better candidate for City Council.

In a time of corrupt and criminal Republican rule, and often spineless Democratic capitulation, Justin Jeffre stands as a man of compassion and uncompromising principle.

Mark Lause, History Professor

Justin Jeffre will give voice to Cincinnatians otherwise left generally voiceless on a City Council long preoccupied with creating ever-growing opportunities for those at the top to make money. We need government concerned about the people who need clean air, decent water, good jobs and public servants that respect their rights. We need Justin Jeffre.
